The decision was made in Prague, where only the matches for medals are left at the World Championship of the elite division. Slovenia had also shown interest for the organisation of the tournament, but later decided not to apply.

The tournament will take place from April 23 and 29 in Krakow. Besides the host team and the lynxes, the national teams of Austria, Japan, Italy and South Korea will compete for the two places.

The best teams from this championship will qualify for the World Championship of the elite division in 2017, jointly hosted by Germany and France. The third league competition, World Championship of the Division I (B group) will be held from April 17 to 23 in Zagreb.

The qualifying system for the Olympic games 2018 in Pyeongchang is already known. The qualifying matches will be played between September 1 and 4 next year. Slovenia will play in Belarus, competing with Denmark. The last opponent, the winner of the additional qualifying tournament, is not known yet.
