The majority go abroad in search of work and better wages.
Slovenians most often move to Austria – 25% of those who moved out of the country in 2014 decided to start a new life in neighbouring Austria. Austria is followed by Germany, Switzerland and Croatia. However some go even further – even to the other end of the world.
Among the most wanted professions abroad are IT specialists, medical and nursing staff, engineers and skilled workers.
Many young people experience foreign places for the first time through student exchange programs.
