Namely, the third candidate Marko Zidanšek dropped out of the race during a meeting of the Executive Committee. He said that his decision was because he realized that SLS is not yet mature enough for his vision of a modern and open centre-right party that is focused on the future.

Outgoing President Franc Bogovič, namely MEP, is of the opinion that Zidanšek withdrew because he had the feeling that he did not have the unanimous support for his candidacy that he wanted.
