Let's start with some basic data: she was born in 1970 in Novo mesto, which was then a part of Yugoslavia. She is tall, measuring admirable 180 cm. She became a permanent resident of the USA in 2001, and an American citizen in 2006.
Wikipedia explains that she spent the first part of her life in a modest apartment in a housing block in Sevnica. She attended the Secondary School of Design and Photography in Ljubljana, and studied at the University of Ljubljana for one year before dropping out. In spite of her short academic career she is an actual polyglot - she speaks five languages, besides her native Slovenian language also Serbian, English, French, and German.
Donald was a persistent conqueror
She began her modelling career at age 16, and at 17 she already posed for the established Slovenian fashion photographer Stane Jerko, which opened for her the door into the world. At 18 she signed with a modelling agency from Milan, Italy. In 1996 she went even further, and stepped on the American ground for the first time. After that she regularly returned to Slovenia in order to obtain the necessary one-year work visas, until 2001, when she received a green card and became a permanent resident of the United States.
Instead of attending wild parties of the cosmopolitan New York, Melanija, who had a successful modelling career, preferred to keep to herself, and often stayed at home. Yet occasionally she went out in the evening, and at the New York Fashion Week Party in September 1998 she met Donald Trump, 24 years her senior, at the time still married to his second wife, Marla Maples, but at that time the marriage allegedly still existed only 'on paper'.
Trump came to the party with another date, and Melanija showed no real interested in him at the time. But he insisted, and she finally agreed to a date. It seemed it would be a short relationship, as they broke up rather soon, but after a couple of months they reconciled, and in January 2005 they exchanged vows in Florida, in front of God and a registrar. The glamorous wedding - Donald's third, Melanija's first - was attended by a number of famous people, including even Bill and Hillary Clinton, Trump's fierce opponent, and loser in the battle for presidency.
"Mini-Donald" is born
Approximately a year later their son was born, named Barron William Trump, Donald's sixth child, as he has five children from previous marriages. Barron is now ten years old; allegedly he likes to play golf with his father, and converses with his mother in fluent Slovenian. "Mini-Donald", as his mother calls him affectionately, regularly appears in public in his suit and tie.
Melania played an important role in the battle for presidency. Her always impeccable image and composure helped soften the crude image often projected by Trump. Her speech at the Republican National Convention, a part of which was nearly identical to Michelle Obama's speech at the 2008 Democratic National Convention, raised a lot of dust. The social networks users had a lot of fun at her expense for her strong accent which persists even after almost two decades in the USA.
During the campaign a number of allegations on her past had been published. The British tabloid Daily Mail for example wrote that in the 90s she had worked as an escort for a gentlemen's club in Italy, and Trump filed a defamation lawsuit. Presently she is suing the Slovenian journalist Tomaž Mihelič for slander.
