The plaque with the inscription "Professor Emeritus Alojz Srebotnjak, the Slovenian composer, was born in this house on 27 June 1931" was unveiled by his wife Dubravka Tomšič Srebotnjak, son Martin Srebotnjak and Postojna mayor Igor Marentič.

He composed Kosovel's Pine Trees
Srebotnjak was born in Postojna to wood merchant and landowner Alojz Srebotnjak and Viktorija Ukmar. In 1958, he finished his studies of composition at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana, where he also taught between 1970 and 2001.

His extensive and varied oeuvre includes various instrumental pieces, vocal-instrumental music, choral music, and music for film and stage. In many of his works, the composer remained firmly connected with his native Karst hinterland.

His compositions have become part of the iron repertoire of numerous soloists, ensembles and choirs. His choral composition of the poem Bori (Pine Trees) by Srečko Kosovel, which Srebotnjak composed at eighteen, is especially popular with choirs. Among his major vocal-instrumental pieces are the Škofja Loka Passion and the Ecstasy of Death.

He received numerous awards
The composer, who also studied abroad, received numerous awards for his works. Among the most notable are Prešeren's Award for Lifetime Achievement (1999) and the Kozin Prize of the Society of Slovene Composers (2000). He also received several awards for film music.
