Two months ago, both Maribor and Olimpija had 46 points. But after Saturday the Violets are ahead of the second placed Domžale by 15 points. In 2012 Maribor set the record with the advantage of 20 points. "We have no intention of slackening, our aim is the record difference between the first- and the second-placed teams," captain Marco Tavares claims.
Milanič is the Maribor's trainer with most trophies
Darko Milanič took Maribor to the fifth title, and is now at the top of the trainers with the largest number of trophies. "The number of trophies won by Maribor is much more important. I've had the honour to contribute to five trophies, and it is my great pleasure that we were successful. We should not be modest about it, it is something great, and a person can't get tired of the feeling. Nothing can compete with what it feels to be the best in the country!" The Maribor team, and especially the sport director Zlatko Zahović is facing a lot of work in the office, as for some of the players the contracts are expiring. Two months from now the qualifications for the Champions League will begin, one of the heights of the season. "If the team remains as it is, with strong competition within the team, and if the team gets along well, we can be optimistic. We are not hiding our ambitions for Europe. During the season our European goals were somehow left in the background, but it was always there; we were quite close to qualifying into the group part. It is our great wish to have international obligations in the autumn," Milanič explained.
