First it seemed that Prelesnik would fail, as three opposition parties (Slovenian democratic party, People's party, New Slovenia) walked out. President Borut Pahor's office is confident about the vote, and added that professional criteria had been the first and basic criteria used in Pahor's decision.

Prelesnik was nominated to succeed Nataša Pirc Musar.
