The two natives of Slovenia’s coast finished Saturday’s regattas for medals on third place, which sufficed to win the championship. This is Mrak and Macarol’s biggest accomplishment in sailing, but not their first and only one from European championships – in 2014 they won a bronze in Athens.

“We’re very satisfied. The gold medal is a big success, we sailed well all week and we badly wanted to race today, too. We had a good start, but there was too much pressure from the right side, so we started by the regatta’s boat and held tight to our opponents. We turned at the first buoy as fourth, but we advanced and finished the regatta on third place, and overall as the first Europeans,” explained Macarol.
