Last week Mramor labeled the opposition calls for him to step down as unfair. He now says that he accepted the proposed bonus payments, received while he was still Dean at the Faculty of Economics, in good faith that such action was lawful. He repeated that with the standby bonuses he wished to reward his colleagues for doing additional work.
Announcing his move the minister also apologized to all those he may have affected with the action, adding that he would return all the funds he had received as bonuses. At the same time Mramor also regrets that the question of the lawfulness of bonus payments was not cleared up back in the year 2008, but in 2015.
The Public Sector Inspectorate recently revealed that some faculties paid out unlawful standby bonuses to its employees. The Faculty of Economics was one of these institutions, in the period when Mramor served as the faculty dean. Inspectors tasked the faculties who made such payments to return the money. Between the years 2008 and 2013 Mramor is said to have received standby bonus payments of 45.000 euros gross.
