Moreover, when the residential part has been restored, unique paintings have been found on beams. The new discoveries will not stop the process of renovation, but the entire investment will be more expensive.
Head of the archaeological team, which monitors construction works on site, Draško Josipovič says after the Second World War, the Yugoslav People's Army was situated at the mansion. He says it destroyed the nearby church of St. Mark, the chapel of St. Boniface in the residential part of the mansion and broke a number of statues.
The discoveries mean that archeologists will need to invest more time into the renovation and the working cost will rise for several thousand euros. The additional cost has not yet been assessed, however for now the works are running according to plan. The deadline for completion is 1 July 2015.
