Baričič and his common-law partner, Mateja Vrankar, have registered two companies at the same address in London, and Baričič is the director of both, reported Breda Štivan Bonča for TV Slovenija. Both companies specialise in manager consulting and have no employees, no email address and no phone number listed.
Additionally, the head of the Ljubljana University Medical Centre (UKCL) has registered a small business in Austria and works as an IT consultant. In Slovenia Baričič owns two companies – Globe deals with consulting, Glabo with trade and education. He is also a member of the supervisory board in Istrabenz, and a member of the audit committee in the supervisory board of Elektro Gorenjska.
Baričič refused to give any comments regarding his ownership of several companies, explaining that this is not in relevant for journalists and that these companies have nothing to do with his function in UKCL. He also said he did not understand why journalists were interested in this and that they simply followed certain people who had been paid to undermine the stability of UKCL.
Still seen as trustworthy
Despite this the president of UKCL’s board, Tomaž Glažar, who also suggested Baričič for this function, still trusts the latter. In his opinion, until something is proven to be illegal, it is not questionable. In addition, Glažar explained that he had known about Baričič running several businesses at home and abroad, but he does not expect this to cause any trouble. However, he expects that there will be not cooperation between Baričič’s companies and UKCL, and that UKCL’s new caretaker will focus on solving problems in the institution fully and as soon as possible.
