The number of tourists in the first nine months of the year has increased by 11.8% compared to last year, and the number of overnight stays has increased by 8%. The total of 361,290 tourists have been recorded in tourist facilities in Slovenia in September, i.e. 9.7% more than in last September, and the number of overnight stays has increased by 7%, adding up to 895,437. According to the data by the Statistical Office, there were 8.31 million overnight stays in the first nine months of this year.
Most tourists come from Germany
The number of both domestic and foreign tourist has increased by 10.4% and 12.4% respectively. 71% of overnight tourists came from abroad, mostly from Germany (16%), Austria (13%), Italy (11%), United Kingdom and Israel (5% each).
In September almost 39,000 accommodations (rooms, apartments, houses, huts, bungalows, camping and mooring spaces) were available for tourists, with almost 107,000 beds. In average 62% of hotel rooms, and 54% of hotel beds were occupied. Almost 576,000 overnight stays have been recorder in hotels, and 107,000 in camps.
Most popular are health resorts
The largest number of overnight stays were recorded in municipalities with health resorts (25%, or 225,000), next came coastal and mountain municipalities (24% each). The municipality of Ljubljana recorded almost 125,000 (14%) of all tourist overnight stays. The number of tourists in municipalities with health resorts increased by one percent, in coastal municipalities by 6%, in mountain municipalities by 12%, and in Ljubljana by 15%.
One third of all overnight stays were recorded in the municipalities of Piran and Ljubljana. Domestic tourists most often stayed in the municipalities of Piran, Brežice, Izola and Moravske Toplice, and tourists from abroad in the municipalities of Ljubljana, Piran and Bled, statisticians reported.
