Each using their own arguments, the organisers will try to convince voters that the government project is either good or bad. The government says that the second track between Koper and Divača should have been built long ago. The Modern Centre Party (SMC) has pointed out that in the event the project fails, Slovenia will have to return a large sum of money to the EU.
The project's opponents, on the other hand, claim that 1,5 billion euros is too much for a 27 kilometre long track, that the existing track is not rational and that there are not enough anti-corruption assurances. The referendum is scheduled for the 24th September.
According to the STA News Agency, by Thursday, the following organisers had registered at the State Election Commission: Government Communication Office, the Davkoplačevalci se ne damo movement, Alliance of Social Liberal Democrats, Modern Centre Party (SMC), the NSI party, the Christian Socialists of Slovenia - Krekovi socialisti party, the Stranka enakopravnih dežel party, the Naprej Slovenija party, Social Democrats (SD), 2TDK company, Motorway Company in the Republic of Slovenia (Dars) and Slovenian Railways. The Ajpes register shows that the Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) has already opened bank accounts for the campaign. Organisers have to register for the campaign until the 1st of September.
