We walked through the atrium of ZRC SAZU among the exhibited object with the organizer of the event, Aga Grebenc just before the 8th auction started. She told us that this is a charity event and that the proceeds from the auction help with the employment of homeless people and other socially deprived citizens. Cooperative Old Goods, New Use works as a non-governmental and non-profit organization.
"We collect the items for the auction through the whole year. Donors bring us various things every day to our Old Goods, New Use agency, where we later sell those items. We then chose the most interesting objects for the auction. We work with Jaka Prijatelj, antiquary from Trubarjeva street and with the antique shop Ritar, who help us with the auction," said the organizer about the selection of the items for the auction.
Among the exhibited object, there are mostly pictures, cups, figurines, candlesticks, vases, and statutes. A handmade, embroidered sheepskin coat stands out the most. "We do not know this coat’s story, so we call it "Santa’s coat", as a joke. People from the theatre were asking about the coat because they want to use it in one of their shows." An interesting coat was later auctioned for 70 euros.
Among the numerous artworks, a colour chart by France Slana from 1986 and an original painting by Jože Spacal entitled Autumn Birds stood out the most, mostly because of their price. Both works were later sold for 100 and 110 euros.
