Those are just two of the highlights from the 34th round of matches. After suffering a shock defeat on Saturday in the last minutes of its match against Maribor, Olimpija is now in control again and the national championship title is within its reach. Olimpija can win its first star already on Saturday in Velenje, where Koper was also crowned champion in 2010. The following five years the trophy always went to Maribor. Below are some of the post-match reactions from yesterday’s matches Celje - Olimpija (1:3) and Maribor - Rudar (2:3).
Darijan Matić: "My impressions are unbelievable as we’re very close to achieving our goal. We expected to win, but we did not expect Maribor to lose. We’re now in a state of euphoria. The story about the offered financial reward to Celje two months ago? We deal with lies, and this is certainly one of them. But I can’t say anything for sure, as I’m not in that circle of people."
Rodolfo Vanoli, Olimpija coach: "The boys were fantastic on the field, and I give the match my highest praise. I also congratulate Celje for not giving us any gifts. I told the boys that only those with big hearts and quality will be able to play. We have good foundations to achieve great things."
Rok Kronaveter: "After the shock at the derby it was not that easy to concentrate, but we were very resolute going into the match. We managed to score two goals quite fast, but then made an incomprehensible mistake and started panicking again. We then managed to get it together and bring the match to an end. I hope we also win on Saturday."
Dejan Kelhar: "The way the match ended we can’t be sad. Our emotions came to the surface as we too are normal people. We are aware of what awaits us and that we still have to win three more points. We’ll draw a line on the 21st of May. With regards to our game we might have been a little stiff, but I guess that’s normal."
Robert Pevnik, Celje coach: "My only remark in the match is that I can’t accept Olimpija’s unfair move when they scored their first goal, and did not kick the ball out of play. Travner was lying on the ground and Radović did not return the ball. I’m proud of my players and my fans. We’re proud of our team emblem and we don’t need any financial rewards from anyone. I don’t even know what all that is about."
Darko Milanič, Maribor coach: "Our problem is more physical than psychological. We totally stopped playing in midfield. We’ll play the last two matches to the best of our abilities. Nothing is over yet. Anything can still happen."
Marcos Tavares, Maribor captain: "I don’t know."(His reply to what went wrong)
Ramiz Smajlović, Rudar coach: "Hardly anyone was optimistic before the match, but everything went according to our wishes. I have to commend my players. They played the way we agreed. They believed, persisted until the end, and were awarded for that."
