“This means we have finally been able to exclude the diagnosis of ‘Ebola virus disease (EVD)’. A few additional laboratory tests will be performed on the patient in the coming days, but we can now discharge the patient since she does not have fever anymore, she is feeling well and does not have any other health problems,” explained the doctors.
The dean of the Clinic for Infectious Diseases and Febrille Illnesses, Franc Strle, notes that the response of the healthcare system to this case has been very good. According to the dean, all of the remarks received in the last few days have been written down and will be carefully studied as early as next week, attempting to determine what could be done to further improve the response.
There are certainly some things that may need to be fixed, warns Strle but argues that the probability of Ebola virus entering the territory of Slovenia is very low. An epidemic of Ebola could not break out in Slovenia, the dean emphasized, only individual cases of patients with Ebola coming to Slovenia from abroad are possible, and individual cases where the infection could be transmitted to people who are most at risk, i.e. health care workers.
