Don't forget to bring along your bathing suit when going to Ljubljana this weekend. On Saturday, the fun lasted until 9 p.m., while on Sunday the slide in the city centre will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
For those who do not enjoy water slides, the organisers of the event – promoted with the slogan "I am what I drink. I drink tap water" – also set up a water bar, a giant water tank to jump into, and stands of the Open Kitchen, which had moved from the Pogačar Square for this special occasion.
The event is part of the Green Capital of Europe programme and the Primovoda campaign, which aims to raise awareness about sustainable development and preservation of clean drinking water. 70 cubic metres of water were used for the water slide, less than the quantity of water used to produce five kilograms of beef, explained Krištof Mlakar, CEO of Vodovod-kanalizacija, in a statement for TV Slovenija. "Since this is a closed system, the water will circulate and will not be released. After these two days, it will be cleaned in our cleaning plant and returned back into the environment in clean condition," added Mlakar.
Water fun also comes with a bit of charity – in cooperation with the Ljubljana Moste-Polje Slovenian Association of Friends of Youth, the Vodovod-kanalizacija company will enable 30 children from socially disadvantaged families to spend a few days on holidays at the Slovenian coast.
