The Novo Mesto Police Department reports that during the summer months, they receive frequent complaints of produce being stolen. According to the police, such activity is illegal and affects people's sense of security despite the typically limited financial value of the stolen goods.

Today, the police department appealed to the public, urging citizens to report suspicious vehicles and people who may be preparing to steal produce. Police are convinced that by working with the public, they could become more efficient in preventing this type of crime. Mounted and canine units will also participate in the enhanced patrols.

The increase in the police presence has already shown to be effective, since violators are less likely to steal crops if they know that police are present nearby, say representatives of the Novo Mesto Police Department. The police have carried out the campaign for several years, but this year, they launched it even before most produce has become ripe for consumption.
