The President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker and the first vice-president of the commission Frans Timmermans in their letter addressed to the prime ministers of Slovenia and Croatia Miro Cerar and Zoran Milanović made their position clear: the commission is supporting the continuation of the work of the Court of Arbitration. Juncker and Timmermans also expressed the satisfaction with the fact that two new arbitrators have been appointed, thus allowing the Court to resume its work. They are convinced that both parties will act in the spirit of genuine cooperation.

"Obviously the Commission wants the members of the Union to solve their border disputes, as it is easier to apply EU legislation in all the members when a border is clearly defined," Timmermans said, and added that arbitration is a good way to settle a dispute.
