Minister of Labour Anja Kopač Mrak has established that Slovenia is fighting against the at-risk-of-poverty-rate with greater success than other European countries. The weakest point are precarious workers, i.e. individuals who are employed, but their employment lasts from one contract to another; they have no social or labour rights.
Some researches show that one tenth of all the workers employed in Slovenia are precarious workers, and their number has been increasing. Precarious workers are the most subjected to poverty compared to regular workers, although social distress is rather frequent in the latter group as well.
The largest humanitarian organisation of Slovenia The Red Cross (Rdeči križ) last year helped 160 thousand people. There are more and more people who are working, and have a job, but their income is too low. According to Renata Brunskole, Secretary General of the Red Cross "There is at least one family facing poverty in every Slovenian village," she said.
