This week the podcast Številke (Numbers) deals with the research performed by Nataša Kejžar and Patrick Doreian, the authors of the book Understanding Large Temporal Networks and Spatial Networks, which includes also the analysis of the transfer of Premier league football players network.
The Statistical office of the Republic of Slovenia, the official partner of the podcast, once again gave us interesting data linked with the central theme, i.e. data on use of internet by households and individuals in the first quarter of 2014.
Household accessed internet through:
- laptop computer or tablet - 74%
- personal computer - 70%
- mobile phone or other mobile device (e.g. e-reader, etc.) - 66 %
- smart tv - 15%.
Reasons against internet
69% of the households without access to internet declared they had no use for it, 62% didn't have adequate skills for use of computers or internet, 47% had to abstain from access to internet due to high prices of the devices (e.g. purchase of computer), and 45% of households could not afford it due to high price of the access (e.g. price of subscription).
E-mail the most common reason for use
In the first quarter of 2014 approximately 1,118,000 people used internet, i.e. 72% of all the inhabitants from the age of 16 to 74. 81% of those used internet daily, or almost every day, mainly (87%) for communicating through e-mail, or for searching data on goods or services.
Increase in use of social networks
58% of the inhabitants participated in internet social networks in the first quarter of 2014 (in the same period in 2013 there was 53% of such users), 61% female, and 56% of male inhabitants. 41% used internet for making phone calls, or video calls.
More than one third uses internet for e-purchases
During the period from April 2013 to March 2014, 37% of people in the age group 16-74 used network for purchases of goods or services. The most frequent internet buyers belong to the age group of 16 to 24 years (65%), and the smallest percentage of such users was in the age group 65–74 (7%).
Most frequent e-purchases
- clothes, sport equipment, shoes - 53%
- tourist accommodations (e.g. booking of accommodations) - 39%
- household goods (e.g. household appliances, furniture…) - 37%
- tickets for various events - 34%
Most of e-buyers (82%) ordered goods or services from Slovenian companies, 47% from companies from other countries members of the European Union, and 27% from companies outside the EU.
