The project includes the third development axes, the second Karavanke tunnel tube, modernisation of Zidani most- Celje, and Pragersko- Maribor railway tracks, hydroelectric power plants, and energy-saving building restoration. European commissioner for transport Violeta Bulc warned the participants of the information day for financing transport project in our country that at the moment a number of mechanisms and possibilities for start up of projects are available, not only in Slovenia, but throughout the region.
At the occasion of her visit in Slovenia, which started on Friday, she recognized an earnest wish for improvement, also for the benefit of the economic development of Slovenia. "There is no answer to the question why it hasn't happen before. Perhaps the people, the space, or the time was not right. I believe the time has come, and that the things will move forward," she said.
She was pleased that the Ministry of Infrastructure today published a strategy for development of transport until 2030, which will be subjected to public debate until the end of January next year. Minister of Infrastructure Peter Gašperšič added that this strategy will be followed by operational plans. The best prepared is the Second Track project, which should cost 1.4 billion euros, Minister Gašperšič said, and approximately 400 million euros should be obtained from European sources.
Both companies intend to contribute a part of the funds from dividends, but the matter shall be subjected to inspection by a special working group. They are also considering the option of inviting foreign partners to cooperate. The investment plan for the Second Track project should be prepared by the end of next month. Next year also the sidetrack will be constructed at the Koper loading station, while the actual construction of the second track could start in 2016.
