Daily highs are expected to go over 35 degrees Celsius. It will also be a hot night in the Primorska (coastal) region, where evening lows are not expected to drop below 25 degrees Celsius. In Dolenje pri Ajdovščini, despite a weak Bora wind, temperatures last night did not fall below 25,9 degrees. That’s the highest evening temperature since record keeping began in 1993.

Waiting for Sunday...
The Environment Agency forecasts extremely hot weather until Thursday. Starting Friday temperatures will begin to drop a little. Thunderstorms can be expected, which should bring some short-term local relief.

At the end of the week there will be a higher possibility of local showers. On Sunday the heat should abate.

A record July?
This year’s July will most likely be recorded as the month with the highest number of hot days (days with daily highs over 30 degrees Celsius). So far, similar temperatures in Slovenia in July were recorded in 2006, when the mercury in Ljubljana climbed to above 30 degrees for 18 days. The average monthly temperature then stood at 23.6 degrees Celsius. In the first 20 days of this year’s July Ljubljana has already counted around 17 hot days. According to forecasts we can look forward to at least five more hot days this month.
