The unified ID card will be issued at the Greek-Macedonian border, Interior Ministry state secretary Boštjan Šefic said at a press conference. He revealed that the document will be valid in all countries along the Balkan route – from Macedonia to Austria. He added that the countries are currently trying to work out the final details.
Šefic stressed that the proposed ID card could make things easier for all parties involved. Police officers would have less work to do, and the measure would allow refugees to cross borders hassle-free.
He also quashed speculation that Austria could impose stricter limits on immigration, stressing that there is no truth to such rumours. He underscored that cooperation between Slovenia and Austria is great at all levels.
