The city municipality of Velenje last year started renovating the boathouse and the beach alongside the Velenje lake, and this year continued the project with an area for swimmers. Bathroom facilities have been installed within the boathouse, there are showers on the beach, gravel is spread on the beach, and there are new wooden stands for sunbathing.
The beach below the Jezero Camp has been extended by 30 metres, and two changing rooms placed at the beach. There are two wooden rafts moored 40 metres from the coast, and a water polo goal. A smaller diving board will be added in future. With the help of the Velenje Water Sports Club a pontoon has been placed for easy access to water for all water sports enthusiasts.
As the bathers in the Velenje lake bathe at their own responsibility, a part of the lake intended for swimmers is separated from the part intended for sailors by dividing ropes. During the swimming season there is a lifeguard present on weekends, and a defibrillator has been set in the vicinity.
The municipality ordered monitoring of the Velenje lake this year as well. In this way the citizens and visitors are informed of the quality of the lake water. The results of weekly measurements published at the boathouse and at the Jezero Camp reception show that the water at the Velenje beach is suitable for bathing.
Based on the monitoring results they will be able to prepare a professional argument for entering the Velenje lake to the list of waters suitable for bathing, which would also mean regular monitoring of the water quality by the Environmental Agency.
Dog beach at the lake
Also dogs can bathe in the Velenje lake. The space for dogs is adequately marked, and intended for bathing of dogs; it is located below the Canine Society of Velenje (Rudniška road 17). The beach is approximately 100 metres long. Dog owners must remove dog faeces from public areas, and keep their dogs on the leashes at the Velenje beach.
Pletna boat cruises the lake
Last month pletna – an electrically driven wooden boat started cruising the lake; it can carry 18 passengers.
The cruise takes approximately 30 minutes, and a stop at the floating Water city is possible. Pletna rides are available every Friday from 4 to 9 p.m., and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 to 12 a.m., and from 4 to 9 p.m. while for organized groups other times can be agreed upon. The pier for pletna is at the bathing complex of the Velenje lake, below the boathouse, and the access by car is possible from the direction of the Jezero Camp.
