While in the past drywall houses were mostly used for storing agricultural tools, the purpose of this house is promotion of tourism.
The Istrian house at the Medljan farm will be used as a tourist information point; it will also house workshops, seminars, tasting of local specialties, and other protocol events on a small scale.
Two autochthonous Istrian donkeys living in the vicinity of the new house also draw attention to the Istrian heritage.
Revival of the Istrian countryside
The house was built within the project Revitas II, extension of the project Revitas, both co-financed through EU funds.
The main purpose of the project is revitalisation and promotion of the Istrian countryside as a tourist destination, with emphasise on natural and cultural heritage. The total cost of the project is approximately 843,000 euros. The participants are, besides the Municipality of Izola with 49,300 euros, also the City Municipality of Koper, the Istria County, the Municipality of Piran, the city of Buzet, the Istria County Tourist Board, and the city of Vodnjan.
