In Saturday’s Alpine stage Roglič started the attack 22 km before the finish line. The 28-year-old captain of the LottoNL Jumbo team broke away from his rivals, and managed to maintain the advantage during the descent to Kamnik, where he celebrated a prestigious victory.

Before Sunday's time-trial, Roglič had a 32-second lead over Rigoberto Uran in second place and was 42 seconds ahead of Rafael Mayo in third place.

Matej Mohorič won the sprint of the chasing group, which was 32 seconds behind. Third place was taken by last year’s winner Rafal Majka from Poland, followed by talented Tadej Pogačar and Colombian Uran, who had to surrender the leader’s green jersey to Roglič. Jani Brajkovič, another Slovenian, finished inninth place.

"I’m very happy that I managed to cross the finish line in Kamnik first. I’m glad that we have organized such a show. My advantage is that I know all of these ascents and, of course, descents. We know the complexity of the terrain very well. The atmosphere was extraordinary, but the race is not over until you cross the finish line. My last time trial was at the Tour of the Basque Country, and then a prologue at the Tour de Romandie. I still have some problems because of the fall during practice," said Roglič.

In Sunday's final stage, it took the 28-year-old only 24 minutes and 46 seconds to breeze through 21.5 kilometres from Trebnje to Novo mesto. The second place was taken by the Slovenian national champion in time trial Jan Tratnik, who was 27 seconds behind, while Czech Josef Černy (+0:35) finished third.

The green jersey for the overall win was thus donned by Primož Roglič for the second time at Tour of Slovenia – he was also the winner in 2015, when he was part of the Adria Mobil team. After also conquering stages at tours of the Basque Country and Romandie, he can now set off to Tour de France with confidence.

Rigoberto Uran finished the five-day Tour of Slovenia (and partly Hungary and Austria) in second place, while the third place went to Matej Mohorič.

The tremendous success of the Slovenian cyclists was made complete by Tadej Pogačar, who won the white jersey for the best young cyclist (up to 23 years old), and in the absolute category, he only missed the podium by two seconds.
