The restaurant was, in his words, intended to unite the majority population with the Roma population. It is a social project, founded by European Union funds in the height of around 300 000 EUR. When word of the project first got out, it caused some tensions, but at the same time caught the attention of foreign media, such as the British BBC.
According to the Roma association Romano Prilipe Maribor the restaurant will provide work for up to 14 Roma.
Around 10000 Roma live in Slovenia today.
