On this day Radio is celebrating a venerable 85th anniversary; 30 years younger Television is celebrating as well.
"During more than eight decades we gained experiences, knowledge, and archives richer than any other media organisation in Slovenia. We are offering to our users unique, and first of all quality programme contents, available to them through the existing communication paths, while the new ones are being introduced constantly," wrote Marko Filli, General Manager of RTV Slovenija.
RTV is one of the most respectable media organisations
He added that the creators of all the programmes can be proud of the path travelled. This public institute wouldn't have been able to place among the leading, and the most respectable media organisations in Slovenia, and across its borders, without the former colleagues. "Day by day we do our best to make sure the national public service enriches the lives of our radio, television or website audience – 24 hours a day, seven days a week," Filli continues.
We don't want to be agreeable
On this day 85 years ago the first Slovenian radio station, the then Radio Ljubljana, started broadcasting, Contrary to the predictions, the radio survived the arrival of the television and of the web, and it looks it will survive new media as well; the data prove that the radio listeners ratings are not decreasing in the least. On the contrary, quite often – and it holds true for Radio Slovenija as well - they are slightly increasing.
"We don't want to be agreeable or pleasant at all cost. We want to remain among the best providers of contents in the field of information, entertainment, and education. We insist on the basic principles of universal accessibility, on the diversity of the programme we offer, on the independence and autonomy of our work. With our colleagues in Koper, Maribor, and Lendava we together create a programme with distinctive characteristics which differs from the average contents created by our radio competition in Slovenia. We all participate in shaping the Slovenian electronic media landscape, struggle for better ratings, and share professional standards. And yet there is a difference: we place quality above agreeableness, trust and argument-supported discussion above gaudiness, and sensationalism,," said Miha Lampreht, Manager of Radio Slovenija.
Enhancing recognition
The cultural-artistic programmes, musical creativity and reproduction are markedly enhancing our recognition compared to the others who lack the knowledge, the ability, or the desire… Our archives play a big role in it, as they are a part of our intangible cultural heritage; it is another aspect we can be evaluated by at this occasion, when the 85th anniversary of our existence is being celebrated, emphasized Lampreht.
