The S&P is one of the top three rating agencies in the world. It downgraded Slovenia's outlook from stable to negative at the end of June, citing political risks and instability as the reason in light of the upcoming general elections.

According to the ministry, the stable rating for Slovenia reflects the expectations of S&P’s that the new government will continue fiscal consolidation, rehabilitation and restructuring of the banking sector and the implementation of structural reforms and privatization of state-owned enterprises.
