The Sečovlje salt pans are well-prepared for this season. The layer at the bottom of the salt fields is of high quality, and they also have a large supply of brine they can use in case of bad weather. This will help them avoid last year's scenario when the rain kept diluting the water in the pools.
They believe the salt will be of excellent quality due to this year's high-quality salt crystals and well-prepared petola, the layer that covers the bottom of the pools.
The company has 10 full-time employees. An additional 20 contractors work at the salt pans. The privatization of the state-owned telecommunications company Telekom Slovenije – the owner of the Sečovlje salt pans – is of little concern to them. According to production manager Dario Sau, they prefer to focus on their own core business. The company will also start renovating a closed bridge that leads to the salt pans. This will be another challenge for the salt workers in the middle of the annual harvesting and tourist season.
