The first time that Savšek got to shine was on Friday, when he was even faster than the kayakers in the second qualifying series. He continued the pace in the semi-finale on Saturday morning, when he set the best time yet again, earning himself the position of being the last among the top ten to set off on the course in the finale.

Sideris Tasiadis of Germany set a quick pace, but he touched a pole. The 28-year-old Slovenian canoeist showed a smooth run, but also got two penalty seconds in the upper part of the run. In the lower part, however, he increased the tempo and tackled all the traps and complex combinations with confidence, beating Tasiadis by 0,45 seconds.
