After the terrorist attacks in France our country has intensified the control of the state border, guarding of buildings, and activities within the country. At the same time certain procedures regarding treatment of refugees have been enhanced. "So far nothing special has been noticed, nor any indications that any of the people crossing Slovenia has any harmful intent toward Slovenia," the state secretary at the Ministry of Internal Affairs Boštjan Šefic said at the regular press conference regarding the refugee crisis.
All competent bodies are maximally involved and attentive to everything going on in Slovenia. If required, they exchange data with security services of other countries. According to Šefic good care is being taken of the safety of residents of Slovenia living, working, going to school or being in care in the vicinity of the accommodation centres. Additional security measures can be adopted if necessary; some have already been applied on request of certain institutes.
By Monday the Slovenian Army had already erected more than 26 kilometres of razor wire fence, which will be prolonged by additional 11 kilometres during the day. Until noon 225,000 refugees have entered our country, 81 have requested international protection in our country, but out of 43 processed requests none has been complied with, Šefic explained. In 29 cases the procedure has been stayed as the applicants have abandoned the asylum centre, one person withdrew the application, and in 13 cases the request was denied.
The Slovenian defence forces at the moment lack approximately 900 reservists, therefore the Slovenian army is actively enlisting reservists.
It is expected that reservists would perform their duty along the state border, in accommodation centres and at constructing infrastructure for military needs. Cooperation in military operations abroad is a possibility, but not in war zones.
