Urška studied architecture and fashion design, but these days she focuses her efforts on creating an own line of jewelry. With the help of traditional handicraft techniques she designs pieces of jewelry with a hint of modern urban aesthetics under a brand simply named “U”.
"I learned the traditional handicraft techniques as a child. I liked watching my aunt, mother and grandmother knit and crotch in front of the television. Later, at the faculty, I consolidated my knowledge with theory. The symbolic value it has is very important as opposed to the mass production and consumption of clothes which is ever more questionable from a moral standpoint," says Hvalica.
At the moment she is gaining experience in the London studio of Lara Bohinc, a world renowned designer of Slovene origin, where famous and influential names, such as Kate Moss and Michelle Obama, buy their jewelry.
