9 May is celebrated by all EU citizens as a day of peace and unity in Europe. On 9 May we celebrate Europe Day, the anniversary of the declaration by French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman, who in 1950 proposed a new form of a cooperation in Europe. The "Schuman Declaration" was the beginning of today's European Union (EU), a successfull multinational organization which, based on economic and political cooperation, ensured peace on the old continent. Slovenia has been a part of this organization since 2004.
