In 2016, the 2.06 million people in Slovenia were living in 212 very diverse municipalities. You may be interested in learning which characteristics distinguish a particular municipality from its neighbours.
Thematic maps enable the presentation of effective integration of statistical data in various themes and spatial data. Cartographic presentations are much clearer than displaying data in tables and charts, as they allow us to review and compare the patterns, relationships and trends between the studied data on the selected spatial area that maps the real world.
We would like to point out only some thematic data:
- The population maps show the circular pattern of the brightest shades of colour in the central part of Slovenia (with the exception of Ljubljana), which illustrates municipalities with lower mean ages of the population. The lowest mean age of the population - in 2016 it was 38 years and had been for five years lower than the national average - had the municipalities of Komenda and Gorenja vas - Poljane. Border municipalities stood out with higher mean ages of the population. Municipalities with the highest mean ages of the population were Kostel (50 years) and Osilnica (49 years), which lie at the border with Croatia, and Hodoš (49 years), which lies at the Hungarian border. In 110 municipalities, mean age of the population was higher than the national average.
- Domestic tourists spent on average 3.1 nights in tourist accommodations, while foreign tourists spent on average 2.4 nights. Most domestic tourist arrivals per 1,000 population were recorded in health resorts in the municipalities of Veržej (18,900) and Podčetrtek (17,050), while most foreign tourist arrivals per 1,000 population were recorded in the municipalities of Bled (38,200) and Kranjska Gora (22,050). All these municipalities were also among those in which over 30,000 overnight stays per 1,000 population were recorded.
- In the academic year 2015/2016, 80,798 students were enrolled in tertiary education in Slovenia, which is on average 39 students per 1,000 population. Depending on the residence of students, most students per 1,000 population were recorded in municipalities Luče (55), Žužemberk (52), Kobarid and Vodice (each 51). The number of students per 1,000 population was higher than the national average in 42% of the municipalities.
