An internal probe showed that Stabej misappropriated funds, charged non-work related expenses to the embassy's credit card, used the embassy's car for non-work related trips, and was absent from the country without official permission. Stabej is also purported to have forged documents in a bid to cover up her tracks.

The Foreign Ministry has responded to these allegations. Secretary General Stanislav Vidovič said her term as ambassador would be shortened by one year. The Foreign Ministry also expects Stabej to return the misappropriated funds, and some of the money has already been recovered. According to Vidovič, Stabej is cooperating with the police investigation.

The embassy was also awarded 5000 euros in damages following a major water leak in the embassy building. Stabej signed a form saying that the embassy had received the money. However, the embassy never got it. When the ambassador was confronted about the missing money, she denied any knowledge of it.
