Operation Sophia is the second part of EU's Eunavfor mission, aimed at rescuing refugees at sea and destroying smuggling networks. 49 members of the Slovenian Armed Forces are taking part in the operation. From that figure, 37 are crew members on the Triglav patrol boat. This is Triglav's second such mission. Since the 19th of October last year it has rescued more than six hundred refugees stranded at sea and destroyed five smuggler vessels.

21 countries are taking part in the operation. A total of around eight thousand refugees have been rescued so far. At the request of the operation commander, the government has prolonged Triglav's participation in the mission until mid-March.
