TV Slovenija's entertainment program informs that in October it applied to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. It adds that it intends to publish an open call for the Ema festival, to be held in February next year. In May it will then send its representative to the Eurovision song contest in Sweden.
We already wrote that in September RTV Slovenija filed a preliminary application for taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, thus expressing interest to take part in the festival. EBU gave national broadcasting stations until the 10th of October to make a final decision, on whether they would send their representatives to Stockholm. RTV Slovenija had time until mid-October to change its mind if it wanted do, without having to suffer any financial penalties.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2016 will take place in May at the Globen Arena in Stockholm (the semi-final evenings will be on the 10th and 12th of May, while the final is scheduled for the 14th May). Mans Zelmerlöw brought the competition to Sweden from Vienna with his winning song Heroes. At the last song contest in Vienna, Slovenia was represented by the Maraaya duo, made up of Raay and Marjetka Vovk. They finished 14th with their song Here for You.
