According to the Office of the Slovenian PM, prime ministers emphasized the meaning of good cooperation between the two countries, and spoke about opportunities for further improvement of relations in numerous areas. The PMs also discussed the possibilities for additional strengthening of economic cooperation between Slovenia and Croatia.
The issue of migrant crisis could not be avoided either. The PMs agreed there was a need for better collaboration between countries. Both are concerned about the lack of efficient European response and results of recent changes in migrant policies in some of the target countries, which have caused increased bilateral tensions and could, consequently, destabilise the Western Balkans.
Plans for better cooperation
In view of this, Orešković supports Cerar’s initiative for helping Greece and Macedonia stop illegal migrations along the Balkan route. "The prime ministers have also settled on close cooperation in carrying out the initiative, both in terms of daily operation as well as in the light of February’s plenary session of the European Council," added the Office.
The meeting was Croatian PM’s first visit abroad after taking office a week ago, and a first-time meeting between Orešković and Cerar.
