Kveder’s bread and butter is high-quality furniture, but he has also furnished a number of churches. However, during the last economic crisis he realized that he needed something special to stand out of the crowd. Therefore, he made a car out of wood.
“I wanted this to be a showcase project. The car is made 70 percent of wood. To successfully complete such a project, you have to be a carver, a sculptor, a restoration specialist, a carpenter, and a car painter,” said Kveder. He made the car according to original Ford plans, and the driveable replica wowed Ford representatives. “They couldn’t believe the car was drivable. They thought it was a mock-up. They were amazed when we told them the car was a 1:1 replica and drivable,” added Kveder.
He and his friends also opened a small museum detailing the creation of the car. “We wanted to show people how the car was created, so we took pictures documenting the process, and then we opened the museum,” said Tomaž Jemec, who helped establish the museum.
The vehicle is a true masterpiece that has left many a carpenter slack-jawed with amazement.
