Roglič has completed the tour with two individual wins, since he also won the fourth stage. The Slovenian had already proven himself as a specialist for chronometres at last year's Giro. In Basque he defeated Valverde by nine seconds, while the third-best Jon Izaguirre (also Spanish) fell behind by 15 seconds. Roglič showed this best in the second half of the time-measured race, where the track in Eibar is more flat, giving Roglič a competitive advantage.
For the former ski jumper, this was his eleventh victory in the world series. In the overall ranking of the Tour of Basque, Roglič finished in fifth place, 59 seconds behind the winner Alejandro Valverde.
