The confirmation that the young director is truly on the right path has now come from Tokyo, where the film won its first award.
At the 28th Tokio International Film Festival, Omerzu's Family Film has been awarded as the best artistic submission. The director – born in 1984 in Ljubljana, a graduate of the renowned FAMU, Film and TV School at The Academy of Performing Arts in Prague – had already attracted the attention with his debut, a graduate film titled A Night Too Young, which prompted the Czech critics to name Omerzu as the find of the year. The successful start to Omerzu's career path now continues with his second work.
This November Family Film will open the 26th LIFFe, the Ljubljana International Film Festival. It is fairly rare "for a young director to make two films in three years, with the second one being even better than the first", noted the festival's programme director Simon Popek, explaining why the film deserves a top slot.
