However, the number of accidents decreased, although only by two to 266 between 1 January and 18 August over the same period in 2012. Moreover, the number of injured mountaineers decreased, from 310 to 308.
The majority of accidents were said to be caused by falls or slips on the rocks and the loss of control.
According to the Slovenian Mountains Rescue Association, the second most common reason for accidents in the mountains is getting lost, followed by a lack of physical and mental strength, inappropriate gear as well as its misuse.
Slovenian mountains are frequently visited by foreigners, but the majority of the injured are still Slovenian citizens.
