Tomič is the winner of the fifth Barilla Pasta World Championship which on Saturday ended in Parma, Italy.
After his victory Jure said to the Italian media that he was very pleased with the title: "I love cooking pasta, and respect traditional recipes, but I also like to experiment."
In the finals the Slovenian chef defeated Mark Delia from Spain, Umberto Massimo Gorizia and Yoshitaka Miyamoto from Japan. This year 17 chefs from all over the world participated at the contest.
The winner was chosen by two juries, i.e. the technical jury, consisting of Daniele Caldarulo, Marcello Zaccaria and Andrea Grignaffini, and VIP jury made of Davide Oldani, Paolo Barilla, Vittoria Belvedere and Paolo Lopriore.
Last year at the world championship the Slovenian participant, chef Matjaž Cotič, took the second place.
The contest is organized by Academia Barilla, the international centre in charge of promotion of the Italian gastronomic culture, with a culinary school and development centre, visited by lovers of Italian food and culture from all over the world.
