Pahor also celebrated the Slovenian cultural holiday with the Slovenian community in Berlin and met with the German chancellor Angela Merkel. In regard to the meeting, the Slovenian president noted that “it was not usual for the German chancellor to meet with state presidents unless it was a formal visit”.

The Slovenian president was invited to the opening gala night of Berlinale as a special guest of the German president Joachim Gauck. The two attended the premiere of Django, a film about the famous Jewish guitarist and composer Django Reinhardt, who escaped from Paris during its occupation in 1943.

In addition to Pahor, the red carpet hosted numerous German film stars, famous film director Wim Wenders, members of the festival jury including Hollywood actress Maggie Gyllenhaal and Mexican star Diego Luna and many others.

The Slovenian president departed from Germany directly to Russia for an official visit.
