Soldiers help tackle damage after storm in Črnomelj

At the request of the local community, the Slovenian Armed Forces (SV) set off to southeastern Slovenia to help tackle the damage caused by of a massive, hail-laden storm in Črnomelj. 40 soldiers and two heavy-duty construction vehicles have been sent to the region. Their help is expected to be available by Tuesday or longer, if necessary, said the spokesman of SV Simon Korez.

On Friday, Mayor of Črnomelj Mojca Čemas Stjepanovič asked the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief for help, said Korez. If the administration no longer has funds available, then it sends the request to, or approves the engagement of, the Slovenian army.

Soldiers are available to assist everyone in need of their help, the municipality announced on its website. "There are 44 soldiers ready to help clean the debris left by fallen roof tiles and help put up new tiles on the roof as well as with other work related to storm damage. They came immediately when we called them," states the municipality.
