In choosing the world's best football player, every national football association is represented by three people: the national team coach, the national team captain and one member of the media. Slovenia's votes are given by Srečko Katanec, Boštjan Cesar and Andrej Stare. Each one of them chose three football players.
Ronaldo currently the best striker on the planet
TV Slovenia's renowned commentator decided to give five points to Cristiano Ronaldo. "I decided to vote for him, because he suits my taste - both on the field as a football player, and off the field as a man. I found out that he's actually the one who stimulates and motivates the rest of his teammates. He is a little extravagant, but he is currently the biggest professional there is. His goals are masterpieces and at the moment there is no faster or better striker than him on the planet," explained Stare for MMC.
He also voted for Ribery and Cavani
He put Franck Ribery in second place (three points) and Edinson Cavani in third (one point). "I've admired Ribery since 2006, when he was surprisingly included in the French national team for the World Cup in Germany. He's Bayern Munich's key player. A team which has wing players like Ribery and Robben almost can't lose. Cavani won me over as a player for Napoli, PSG and his national team. His power and persistence exceed the South American style of play. In short, a super player," explained Dr. Stare.
No room for Messi in this year's Top 3
Why was Lionel Messi, a player who won all three of FIFA's Golden Balls (since FIFA and France Football decided to join their awards into one) not on his ballot paper? "This year Messi was pushed into the background, also due to the fact that he was injured for quite some time. He had brilliant performances, but according to my judgment not enough to make it into the top three. He's also still trying to find himself in the national team where other Argentinian players refuse to subject themselves to Messi’s game." Stare added.
