The massive renovation, financed by the Ljubljana City Municipality, took a year to complete and cost 9.5 million euros.
The complex includes an Olympic-size swimming pool, a shallow and a very shallow pool for children, a whirlpool and a deck with wooden grandstands for sunbathing by the pools. Visitors will be able to engage in some sports activities, too, either by the tables of table tennis or on the basketball and volleyball courts. The municipality would like to turn Kolezija into one of the most popular summer meeting places in Ljubljana, as it used to be; the pool was originally built in 1853.
The total capacity of the complex is 700 swimmers. Despite plans to the contrary, the construction of an indoor Olympic swimming pool was not realised due to a lack of funding. Therefore, only outdoor water facilities are available at Kolezija for the time being, although a pool balloon may be used to cover them outside of the main season to serve the needs of local sports clubs and societies. As its vision for the future, the municipality is open to the possibility of building a 25-metre indoor pool if a private investor expressed interest.
