"It feels as if I returned home, to the homeland of my music and of my spirit. I really love these people. I can feel that my music is at home here," Tan was elated.
The Sunday concert will consist of four parts: the music from films Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, for which the composer was awarded an Oscar for music, Hero, and Banquet, representing the so-called Martial Art Trilogy, while the concert will conclude with the Triple Resurrection. The first three works are based on a single instrument (cello, violin, and piano in the third composition), while in the final work all three instruments are combined, accompanied by the orchestra. "It is a conceptual work,” said Tan.
The composer explained that the music in all three films reflects the plot: in all three films the main heroines renounced love, and sacrificed themselves for love. In Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Jade sacrificed herself for the spiritual love, in Banquet the empress Wan sacrificed herself for longing and for revenge, and in Hero Snow sacrificed herself for the country. Tan emphasized that for these three films, created in a longer time span, he wrote the music after the film had already been made, and after making certain that the films were in harmony with his basic premises in composing: the film had to include martial arts, it had to be a love story, and the instrument had to be defined. "It was film music," he explains the slogan of his long-time effort.
At the press conference the Director of the Ljubljana Festival Darko Brlek emphasized that until September Ljubljana will host a number of top domestic and foreign musicians.
